CHENNAI: In the fourth such incident within a week, Coast Guard has apprehended 10 Sri Lankan fishermen and seized their two fishing boats off Nayagalanka coast in Andhra Pradesh.
About 600 kg of fish catch was also confiscated from them, a defence ministry press release said here on Thursday.
The fishing boats - Praboth and Mayomiwere - were apprehended by Coast Guard ship 'ICGS Sarang' two days ago from 126 nautical miles off Nayagalanka coast for violating sections 3/10, 7/14 and section (A&C) of Maritime Zones Act of 1981, the release said.
The Lankan fishermen and their boats were brought to Chennai on Thursday. The boats, equipped with GPS, radar and long- range high-frequency communication equipment "posed high security risk to the coast", it said.
Since January this year, 33 Lankan boats and 163 fishermen have been apprehended by the Coast Guard, the release said.
