MIAMI: Three people killed when a civilian aircraft taking part in a military drill in Florida crashed, a military official said on Thursday.
The three who died in the late Wednesday crash were civilians assisting in a drill to test ground control capabilities, according to Major Wes Ticer, a spokesman for the US special operations command.
"This civilian company was providing an aircraft to assist with the training of our ground controllers," he said.
"They were training, practicing, controlling the aircraft from the ground through communication," he said, adding that the military often uses civilian jets instead of its own aircraft for such training exercises.
The military would not say what caused the crash, adding that the incident was under investigation.
The bodies were found among the wreckage in a wooded area of south central Florida early on Thursday, the local sheriff said.
