SEOUL: South Korea's presidency on Tuesday accepted the resignation of army chief General Hwang Eui-Don, the defence ministry said.
A ministry spokesman confirmed to AFP that Hwang had offered his resignation, which had been accepted, but gave no other details.
The resignation comes at a sensitive time. Seoul remains on high alert after North Korea's deadly bombardment of a South Korean border island last month.
